Wine & Cheese Pairing
Wines from the Franschhoek Cellar range are paired by winemaker Richard Duckitt with specialty cheese hand-made by Truckle Traditional Cheese in Franschhoek. These are also available for purchase at The Franschhoek Cellar.
For a taste sensation, try the expressive tropical Statue de Femme Sauvignon Blanc with a traditional boerenkaas (Dutch farmhouse gouda) , a semi-hard cheese with a creamy taste; the rich, aromatic La Cotte Mill Chenin Blanc with emmental, which has a sweet, nutty aftertaste; and the elegant Our Town Hall Chardonnay with its citrus notes with a creamy, slightly sweet fontina.
The soft and juicy Old Museum Merlot is a winner with a creamy gorgonzola; the spicy Baker Station Shiraz is a great match for a six-month matured gruyère; and you can round off the tasting with the smooth Churchyard Cabernet Suavignon paired with a mild, spicy boerenkaas with cumin.
